The Centre Gives fundraising event, May 14 – May 15, offers supporters of farmland protection a great opportunity to help raise $12,000 toward preserving our next farm!
Every dollar donated during the 36-hour, online community giving event returns more than $1 to help the Farmland Trust preserve and protect more land in Centre County.
Centre Gives kicks off at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 and ends at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15.
The more CCFT can raise during this fun, online event, the greater CCFT’s share of a $500,000 “stretch pool” of community funding.

Partnerships for Conservation & Prizes!
PLUS, the Centre County Farmland Trust is competing for prize money.
Donate between 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesday during the Nestlerode & Loy Alive at 5 Power Hour and help us compete with small organizations to get the greatest number of individual donors, and win a $500 prize. The Penns Valley Conservation Association is also competing during the Power Hour on Wednesday, 5 – 6 p.m.

At the same time, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, ClearWater Conservancy will be competing for the Power Hour prize among large organizations. ClearWater Conservancy conserves land, stewards water resources and educates the public about conservation across Central Pennsylvania.
Let’s rally for conservation organizations! That’s Wednesday, 5-6 p.m.
The Centre County Farmland Trust and Clearwater Conservancy are distinct, separate organizations that share land conservation goals. CCFT contracts with ClearWater for help on required, annual monitoring visits to each of our 17 preserved properties.
The Penns Valley Conservation Association will broadcast live about supporting conservation and local nonprofits through Centre Gives on Wednesday morning. Tune in to WSOV 101.7 FM or listen live online.

Invest in Conservation & our Quality of Life in Centre County
It’s a great time to invest in conservation in Centre County!
Our Centre Gives fundraising goal is $12,000, the estimated cost of one conservation easement to preserve one property.
We have three new preservations in the works. The initial step is a conservation easement, which is a legally binding document restricting development and attached to the property’s deed. Establishing a conservation easement costs $10,000 to $20,000 per property. They are designed to preserve the property no matter who owns the land in the future. They take many months to complete and involve preparing drawings and legal documents, plus establishing stewardship funds for each property.
Preserving farmland and open land is vital to our quality of life in Centre County. These lands provide us with beautiful scenery and uplifting views. And — they give us so much more than pretty pictures: High-quality, delicious food, cleaner air and water, improved air quality and water quality.
We hope you’ll plan to invest in conservation May 14-15 during Centre Gives! Every dollar donated returns more than $1 to land preservation.
That’s a GREAT investment in the land that benefits all of us with amazing local food, cleaner air and water, habitat for wildlife — and a beautiful, uplifting countryside.
Our goal for Centre Gives: $12,000
Here’s how to help our Farmland Trust preserve these lands:
• Please donate to CCFT during the May 14-15 Centre Gives 36-hour online giving event to benefit non-profits in Centre County. Save the date!
• Sign-up for our E-Mail newsletter for reminders as the date approaches.
• Follow @centrecountyfarmlandtrust on Facebook and Instagram for Centre Gives updates and reminders!
• Make a donation at any time.
Thank you Donors — YOU Make Land Preservation Possible
Since we shared news of these new easements in the works, our donors stepped up during the most recent holiday season and helped pay a portion of the cost of one of them. If you’ve donated — Thank you!
Now, we’re hoping people who have not donated to preserving farmland for awhile — or ever! — and are learning about how How Farmland Benefits Us All, will help pay to preserve these acres.
CCFT is a small non-profit land trust that pays the cost of the conservation easement for landowners who agree to sacrifice the development rights to their land for the greater good. Then, CCFT pays the cost of annual easement monitoring visits to the land into the future to maintain and protect the easement.
Our Trust has 1,483 acres of private farmland and open land in the Centre Area under the protection of legally binding conservation easements that prevent the land from being developed.
