Art for Preservation

“Majestic Rural Pennsylvania” — an exhibition of original artworks that celebrate the landscapes, farmlands, and cultural legacy of Central Pennsylvania — is on display at The Gallery, 15 N. Water Street, Lewisburg, now through May 24.

This group show features the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania, who use their talents to raise awareness about the importance of protecting rural lands. The show and reception are hosted by the Lewisburg Arts Council.

A portion of proceeds from all sales will benefit the Centre County Farmland Trust, an organization that has helped preserve 17 farms in Centre and Blair Counties.

CCFT President Dan Guss spoke during the May 3 opening reception:

“The artists have the eye and the talent to show us the beauty of our farms and fields and give us inspiration to save as much as we can!” said Guss.

“In 2025, we expect to have 19 or 20 parcels totaling 1,923 acres that have permanent protection of their agricultural and conservation values,” said Guss. “Land conservation is an involved legal process with a lot of agreements, surveys, insurance, and legal documents. Further, after the land is protected, it must be stewarded ‘in perpetuity’ — that is forever! — to protect it from degradation by the hand of man.

“Our work requires money both for the initial set-up work and for the yearly monitoring, and an organization like ours is continually in the process of raising the funds. These artists help us with fundraising, but even more important is that their work helps us to keep focused on WHY we are doing this work.”

Thankyou artists!
