How We Preserve Farmland

The Centre County Farmland Trust partners with landowners to preserve their land and its natural resources with a conservation easement that stays with the land — no matter who owns it in the future.

Conservation easements are tailored to the landowner’s goals and restrict future development. Landowners essentially sacrifice their development rights for the greater good.

Conservation easements

Carole Vetter Ripka donated a conservation easement through CCFT on 122 acres in Miles Township in 2005.

This legal agreement protects land and its natural resources by restricting development. It is tailored to the landowner’s goals.

CCFT safeguards the conservation easement with annual visits to the land and by tending relationships with landowners.
